Here is my first attempt at a video blog.  I need to work on the lighting, but the content is solid.  I was a little nervous, but want to have the connection to everyone with the video and need the practice so I can use it to show exercises and different techniques and some other fun stuff.

Let me know what you think

Short Med. ball workout

Hey everyone,

Here is a short video (under 2 min.)  I made of a med. ball workout I put the high school wrestling team through.  I had limited time, space, equipment, and very low ceiling height to deal with.

Hope you like it, feel free to comment.

The song is posted at the end of the video.   What wrestling movie is it from?  Enjoy.

Performance Training/Bodybuilding

Alright, just wanted to write something that has been on my mind for a little while now.  What I wanted to talk about is training for athletic performance and bodybuilding.  Like most of us know, we can get great looking bodies while training for athletic performance.  The thing is, training for athletic performance is different from bodybuilding.

Bodybuilding is just what the name entails.  It is building your body up so you are JACKED, ripped, and your muscles are all pumped up.  There are a lot of people who love this, especially now that there is more advertising and so on that promote the sport.  (I am a fan of this sport and very impressed by those who are dedicated to it) It takes a very dedicated person to do well in bodybuilding.  Not only do you have to spend a lot of time in the gym, you have to know your body down to a science.  Contest prep can be brutal on a person.  Even though bodybuilders are athletes, it is totally different from other forms of athletic events and the training is also different.

Training for athletic performance is different from bodybuilding.  When training for athletic performance we are not trying to get the athletes JACKED and/or ripped.  We are trying to get them ready for their competition and doing the best they can.  We need to train differently than bodybuilders, we are not bodybuilders, we are _____________ (insert your sport here) so we need to train accordingly.  Some sports do require to put on some size and there are programs for this.  Other programs require lots of speed and quickness which are not found in a bodybuilding routine.  Also the nutrition is different in both athletes.  As an athlete one needs to use food as fuel and get them prepared for the competition, as a bodybuilder one needs to use food as a way to look their best for their show.  It doesn’t really if they are fatigued or dehydrated or what, they look good and pumped, they place well.  An athlete needs to be performing at their best on and off contest days.

I guess in all this what I am really trying to say is this.  If you are not a bodybuilder, quit training like one.  Yes you can get bigger and stronger, but what about speed, quickness, agility, and being explosive.  I don’t care how big your muscles are, if the girls are all over you or anything like that.  If you can’t move and operate your body the way it should in a competitive environment, YOU’LL LOSE!  You are an athlete because you like to compete and win, I love to train winners and train athletes to win.  Winners will do what it takes to win and train like athletes, since that is what they are, not bodybuilders.
